This evening, a year ago around 7:15pm, I drove home to Altadena from my Pasadena office. That was the beginning of the end of life as I knew it, and as I had projected it into the future. I thought I’d live in my lovely Altadena home until someone carried me out! I’ve learned SO MUCH about myself thorough this disaster, about cognitive dissonance, about loss, my friends and neighbors and about the institutions we trust to do the right things. I’m changed. Better I think. But wow…really. The sweetest thing… many in my high school class from Oklahoma City, got together and gifted me my entire kitchen set up! Donna, Ann, Jeff, ( Margaret …Donna’s older sister who was very scarey to a 5th grade me) Rainey, Cindy, Rebel, Chip, Becky, Gary, Kelly, …. I seriously feel loved every time I enter that room! Every glass, cup, fork and knife…Thank you for your kindness. Sour… and salty… my kids can never really come home to the place they grew up. I still go home to OKC and of course there is change… but it’s progressive, not this. The town is forever changed. Spicy, our business community! I love us. What a group that has pulled together to make spaces and places and events to keep us whole and communicating. It’s a weird day. I feel unsettled and distracted by my feelings. You?
